Cherry Blossoms blooming at Dallas Arboretum

There is nothing that will get you into the Spring spirit more than visiting the Dallas Arboretum. If you have the time this weekend, GO GO GO and see the Cherry Blossoms. But you have to go NOW because they only stay in bloom for a few days.

All the flowers are gorgeous though, so if you can’t make it right now, it’s still worth a trip. Before you even walk in you are hit with a flowery fragrance so strong, you’d think someone was spraying perfume in your face (but let’s be honest, no perfume actually smells that good).
^^^That's my favorite photo of the lot (even though it's not of the cherry blossoms!). Ok so I was a little curious as to why people care so much about cherry blossoms - Other than the fact that they look like this, obviously. I looked it up. In Japan the cherry blossoms are used as a metaphor for how short life can be - extreme beauty and a quick death.
Apparently the Imperial Army even had a secret society that they named the Cherry Blossom Society (very intimidating). And, yikes, Japanese pilots would paint them on the sides of their planes before embarking on a suicide mission. And then the government encouraged people to believe that the souls of downed warriors were reincarnated in the blossoms.

SO PRETTY, right?! The first association I had when seeing them is of one of my favorite Van Gogh paintings. Just to further hammer in the fact that we've been clocking a lot of time watching these trees every year.
They have some outdoor cafes in the gardens to sit and eat at. I'd love to bring a blanket and relax for a few hours next time. General garden admission is $15, $12 for seniors 65 and over, $10 for ages 3-12, free for ages 2 and under. On-site parking is $15, $8 if purchased online in advance. They are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
